The Admirals Inn.

A little later, I became involved in the formation of the Engineer's House
Company Ltd which converted the Pitch and Tar Store at the back of the
Dockyard into a small inn. As the Friends of English Harbour wrote in one
of their yearly reports, it became a haven for thirsty travellers and yachtsmen.

We raised funds for its development from a Mr. George Morrill of Burnham and Morrill, the firm that makes B & M Beans. Mr. Pres Hubbard, a Connecticut silver fox fur farmer, an inexhaustible story teller, also produced some capital. There were several other shareholders from Maine. Kinty and Allen White were chosen as the first managers, who were very artistic and sociable.

Not long after, Miss Ethelyn Phillip, a stewardess off the yacht "Maverick" became the receptionist and later she became the first Antiguan hotel manager at the Admirals Inn.
