Description:

This 100′ Benetti (Italy), NEW STAR, built in 2004 and refitted in 2016, is elegant!  She also has a wonderful, experienced, French captain and crew of 6, who do all possible to give their guests a good holiday.  Up to 8 guests in 4 staterooms – two are the full width of the ship.  Economical on fuel.  But hurry!  She gets fully booked for charter, so it’s necessary to book in advance to find her calendar open.

The bevelled Burlewood panelling in the saloon sparkles. The white couches are enhanced by silver decanters. The main deck Master with windows all around has an enormous bathroom with tub and stall shower, and there are three additional guest staterooms below, two forward, one with Queen berth, the other with lower Twin beds, and the fourth is aft, the full width of the ship, with Queen.

The bevelled woodwork below gives the yacht a feeling of quality. No skylounge, the sundeck has enormous dining table with whimsical napkins, fresh white flowers, centerpiece, marble pantry, bar, coffee lounge, and arm chairs, all located under a large canape; nice! Stairs lead aft to the cockpit and forward to the captain’s bridge with steering.

French captain Frank has operated NEW STAR for three seasons and is assisted by a multi-national, multi-lingual crew of five. He has a good sense of humour, low-key, in his thirties, and he knows the French Riviera like the back of his hand. Starting in Cannes, he recommends a one-week cruise by way of Nice, San Tropez (to visit Club 55 and Nikki Beach), Cannes and her islands (for crystal-clear waters and overnight), Eden Rock (for hotel and dinner), San Juan Cap or Villefranche, Monaco (for nightlife), and Cap Antibes, a total of 90 miles, cruising 7 or 8 hours total.

A full displacement vessel, NEW STAR consumes 300 liters of fuel per hour, cruising at 12 knots. Crossing to Sardinia involves an overnight sail, but brings the 22% French VAT TAX down 50%, while bringing the fuel bill up. So there are other ways to get around that. To stay the necessary miles offshore that it takes to qualify for the half-price International VAT rate, they go “fishing”….and while we make no promises, France is more lenient on this than Italy and Spain are….
