AU SOLEIL – It hasn’t taken Captain Brian and chef Alex aboard the deluxe air conditioned 45’ Lagoon catamaran AU SOLEIL long to know that life at sea is for them. They took to it instantly, and now they’re hooked!  Tall, blond chef Alex from Toronto started her sailing career in the Mediterranean as chef aboard yachts in Croatia and Greece. Brian from California has been living full time on yachts for three years.  He loves to swim and be in the water and have guests help with the sailing. This, their second year operating AU SOLEIL in the Virgin Islands, they greeted us warmly with offerings of cookies and water, kebabs and antipasti skewers.

Passing the cockpit, I noticed a beautifully set dining table with what looked like sea urchins on the table in red plastic. They were napkin holders; brilliant!

As I entered the main saloon, which spills out into the cockpit for indoor / outdoor living on the same level, creating space for everyone, I felt the cool of the air conditioning and noticed the fully stocked bar, windows letting in lots of natural light, modern furniture, and Brian said, “We have a watermaker.”

The yacht sleeps six guests in three staterooms, all with electric WC and plenty of hot water for those stall showers.  Beautiful cabins – two to starboard and the master stateroom is aft to port.  The crew sleeps forward to port.  All are the same size, more or less, although the two aft cabins are slightly larger with centerline Queens; the third guest cabin forward has Queen against the wall.  All are air conditioned. A seventh person, a teenager preferably, with strong arms, who can hoist himself out of a hatch onto the deck, can come along, if he/she is willing to sleep in the air conditioned forepeak, a private, single cabin, which is accessed over the bow through a hatch in the deck, available on request.  It’s not that difficult to get out of; women can do it too.

There is a neat little fly bridge, and Brian said, “We have lots of games, toys, and lounging areas.”  They are an attractive couple, who work hard, seeing that everybody is comfortable, and AU SOLEIL is a deluxe, comfortable boat for six with generator that brings all the comforts of home, perfect!  (She actually has two.)

Based in St. Thomas, the yacht charters for $13,000 to $14,500 weekly all- inclusive for two to six guests, including Christmas week but New Year’s week is  sold at $21,000 weekly starting on or after December 27th, 2020.
