Description:

The 60′ Trehard sloop, AVALANCHE, is available fully crewed from St. Thomas during the winter with inclusive rates for private parties of up to six, and from Newport, Rhode Island with captain only during the summer.  When the yacht charters with captain only, rates do not include food or operating costs, and guests act as crew and do their own cooking and provisioning. In Newport, AVALANCHE is offered for charter by the week, by the three day weekend, by the day, by the half day, and by the hour.  The yacht accommodates six guests on term charters and six to twelve guests on day charters.  The day charters are for private parties, and the longer the day cruise, the more it is recommended you bring just six people.  Hourly cruises will be with 12 guests where individuals join a group to watch the sun go down over Newport Harbor.  Weekend cruises, involving a three day/two night cruise will involve a sail out to Block Island.  Full day and Half Day Sails will likely involve a sail out and back to Newport Harbor, possibly stopping somewhere for lunch and a swim.  Bring your own lunch but soft drinks are included.

Captain Eric Hollman was born in the outskirts of Detroit, Michigan, where he graduated from the University of Michigan with a degree in Psychology. After working in the mental health field as a counselor, he heard the call of the sea and decided to leave his nine-to-five behind, taking a leap of faith aboard a schooner sailing from the Dominican Republic to Galveston, TX.

After that trip, Eric wondered if he might do something like that for a living instead; turns out, he could! After day-sailing and chartering catamarans in South Florida, working on power yachts (which he figured out quickly was not for him!), and chartering in the BVI’s on another large monohull and various catamarans, he was happy to find Avalanche in need of a captain, and jumped at the chance to man the helm of such a gorgeous boat. There’s nothing he looks forward to more than cutting the engines and listening only to the wind and the waves under sail, and Avalanche performs so well it’s a dream come true.

Chef Stephanie was born in Boston, Massachusetts. At a young age she developed a natural talent for cooking and excelled at combining flavors. She took pride in aesthetic presentation of her dishes and access to fresh New England sea fare inspired many of her meal ideas. She spent many of her summers on her family’s sail boat in Maine and has always had a great appreciation of the sea.

Stephanice has also been a registered yoga teacher since 2012 so health and balance is of great importance to her. She is thrilled to be here in the Virgin Islands as a charter chef aboard Avalanche.

Avalanche has a large and comfortable interior layout with many areas to enjoy, talk, live, play cards, and dine. This yacht is ideal for guests seeking a step above a typical BVI or New England sailing charter. Guest can enjoy 3 double staterooms, all with ensuite bathrooms (the yacht sleeps 6 guests), along with a lovely large salon and galley. The guest beds can be configured as singles or doubles depending on the charter group’s make up.  The crew cabin and head is located aft. With the roomy, shaded cockpit seating area that must be seen to be truly appreciated, you have a yacht that is perfect for a group of 3 couples or a family looking for an exciting sailing holiday.

Eric enjoys it when guests help with the sailing.  He knows the New England and Virgin Islands cruising grounds very well and enjoys sharing his knowledge of the area with guests.  AVALANCHE carries two stand up paddle boards, a floating island with shade awning, and sun mats for foredeck lounging.  There is snorkeling gear, light fishing gear, and beach games.  The dinghy is a 13′ inflatable with 18 hp outboard.  The yacht has onboard WiFi within phone range.

Eric is a good captain.  He offers a fun-filled cruise.
