Accommodating ten guests in five staterooms, the 58′ catamaran BLISS is one of my favorite charter yachts, available year round in the Virgin Islands. Captain Gary is a warm host, full of interesting information about the islands.  Great fun to be with, his love of the Caribbean is infectious.  Gary says, for instance, that there are so many anchorages in the Virgin islands, he could probably do ten charters in a row and not visit the same harbor twice. He says that the bar stools around the galley are used often by guests, who watch Angie, the chef, whip up her beautiful concoctions.  He says newer catamarans tend to snake-wake through the water, but older catamarans are beamier, so they sail in a straight line. BLISS is 13 years old, fresh out of the yard with new sails…  He says the yacht sails beautifully and tracks solidly through the water….  Gary says he has aligned himself with the Ark Foundation in the BVI,and especially the turtle taking program, which is an association of reef keepers.  This association keeps him up to date on when and where the turtles will be returning to the beaches, so that he can take guests to see them.  Gary says he is now able to pick up guests in St. Thomas, because a new ordinance from the US Coast Guard has lifted the ban on yachts carrying more than six passengers.  So he picks up guests in either St. Thomas or Tortola now.  Yay!  Gary says some of the best dives are to be discovered in the Virgin Islands. He says the wreck of the SS Mail Ship ‘RHONE’ is rated among the top five dive wrecks in the world.  Offering unlimited diving to certified guests and Gary a dive master, he says it’s like discovering a whole new world down there… He says you see something new and different every time…. Gary loves to fish! He throws out two trolling lines off the stern as he sails over to Anagada and he catches all sorts of wahoo, dolphin fish, and such.  He says the flats of Anagada offer thrilling bonefishing. He says if you get your fishing license before arriving in the BVI, he can set you up to do some bottom fishing from the deck of the boat. They’ve got casting rods onboard…  He says the Caves of Virgin Gorda are proof-positive that the Virgin Islands are volcanic in origin.  Look how they’ve tumbled there, as though blown from a volcano!

We got all these stories off Gary’s wonderful new video (and our visit to his boat in November 2016), shown below, which showcases the yacht and a narration by Gary.  It also has an exciting sound track that you have to watch, but first this:

  • “If you want a water vacation you go on a cruise, but by the time you spend money on excursions and drinks, it costs a lot more than the original price, and what are you getting? Sightseeing deep inside the interior of the land amidst a sea of people you don’t know. On a yacht charter, the price tag may seem high initially, but it’s far better value for the dollar, because you’re spending your entire time amidst the beauty of the sea at the land, and it’s a retreat vacation, where you get to slow down and spend time with the people you love.”

If you’re looking for a yacht to accommodate your family for a cruise through the Virgin Islands this Christmas or other, BLISS is the obvious choice:
