DEEP BLUE – Ekaterina (Kate) and Richard moved to yachting eight years ago but this is their first season, operating term charters in the Virgin Islands. Richard understands the clientele and service, however, and he has worked on a multitude of other yachts. He understands specifically that a captain’s job among other things is to introduce guests to the sea and to offer activities at each port, so guests have options.
Married to Richard, pretty Kate in her early 20s from Russia plates her food artistically, and she knows to set up the cockpit and guest staterooms neatly. There were buckets of juice and trays of glasses. Turkish towels were on the ready, and the cockpit table was beautifully set. The yacht sleeps six guests in three staterooms, two aft and one forward to starboard; the crew sleeps forward to port and are self-contained; each stateroom has its own private bathroom and lots of AC. Big wide beds, attractively appointed with Grenadines organic chocolates on the pillows, darling tree frond, hibiscus, and rolled blue towels with color coordinated throws – nicely maintained. All the linen is new. The cabins are beautiful, and they have lots of AC! I particularly like the saloon layout. The lounge runs along the forward end around a coffee table, creating a comfortable sitting room with cherry paneling, and the galley runs along the aft end, and out of door dining is offered in the shaded cockpit.
The yacht carries two stand up paddle boards, dinghy with 40 hp outboard – Richard is looking to get a tube and water skis – and there are noodles for floating on and the all-important snorkel gear.
Charters begin and end in St. Thomas from Red Hook, where the yacht will base until the end of July 2020, then be hauled in Puerto Rico. She charters for $12,350 to $14,625 weekly all inclusive for two to six guests (rates slide according to number in party) plus gratuity, except $16,100 weekly for Christmas and $17,000 weekly for New Year with charters starting on or after December 27th.
