Here is an opportunity to sail with world cruisers, Doug and Val Fairfield, lifelong sailors with a great respect for the sea. Originally from South Africa, Doug and Val have lived the sailors dream by spending the last 15 years on an extended cruise that led them to Southeast Asia across the Indian Ocean, then back to South Africa… then across the Atlantic to the Caribbean, where they now offer their 44’ St. Francis catamaran KATLYN for charter.  During the summer they move KATLYN to the Southern Caribbean….the Windward Islands and Grenadines, which is outside the hurricane path. During the winter they move the yacht north to the Virgin Islands, where the seas are calm and the islands are close together, making it an ideal cruising ground for vacationers.

Here is what Doug and Val say about their respect for the sea:  “During our voyages, we raised and home schooled our children aboard, and have enjoyed a life living beyond the limits and safety of the norm. Along the way we have developed an awareness, appreciation and respect for the ocean, the sky and the weather in all its diversity. Doug holds a Yachtmaster Offshore qualification, and is a charismatic, adventurous and attentive skipper and host, willing to go the extra mile to ensure you get the most out of your vacation. Val, with her attention to detail, takes care of your culinary requirements and accommodation, as well as assisting Doug with the sailing.”

KATLYN is the vessel they sailed the world on.  She is a tried and true ocean sailor.  Being 15 years old, she does not offer the typical amenities that modern yachts have, but this makes your sailing experience all the more real (yachts of old did not have the amenities of today’s yachts).  The heads require manual pumping, and one of the three Queen guest cabins has to share a bathroom, (which is why they recommend parties of six be families), but this yacht is Doug and Val’s home, and they know how space flows aboard her to make it comfortable for guests.  The galley is tucked away in the passageway below to port, thus opening the saloon up to more guest space!  Solar panels make enough electricity to supply air conditioning to all the guest cabins (although they don’t run the AC all night), and there are 110 and 220 electrical outlets. The deck shower sports cold water; it’ll be warmed by the sun!  KATLYN offers a golden opportunity to sail with world cruisers who know a lot about the sea and how to have fun and be safe on it.  Doug and Val specialize in snorkeling excursions!   A++!
