Over one hundred years old (built in 1916), the 107′ schooner SILVER SPRAY was originally built as a pilot schooner to take pilots out to freighters in Amsterdam harbor. She was then sold to a family, who used her as a whaling vessel. A motor yacht then, from 1984 to 1994, she was put on display in Rotterdam as a museum piece. Newly refitted from the bottom plank up, her present owner converted her back to a sailing ship and uses her as a luxury cruising yacht. With upper and lower saloons, cockpit and coach roof sunning, high bulwarks and long bowsprit, plus four guest staterooms, located in two compartments, for parties of six, the upper saloon separates the Master cabin from the rest of the accommodations forward. Just exactly fitting for a 100 year old yacht, the Lower Saloon has brass fittings, beveled mahogany paneling, red, velvet, tufted upholstery, silver decanters, wood floors, Oriental throw rugs, flowers, and library of leather bound books. Headed by a young, handsome, German captain with British accent, high-born Niko, who has been with the yacht all through its 2016 refit, is assisted by Mattie, the chef from Britain, Cynthia, the chief stewardess, and Kelvin, the first mate from South Africa, who are all young and nice as can be!  Captain Niko loves guests to help with the sailing. The yacht is a wishbone schooner with self tacking staysail and jib, hydraulically controlled sheets; roller furling main sail; and there are electric winches. There’s no need to use the running backstays, because each mast has 12 stays. So the crew don’t use them….   Available from St. Maarten and Tortola during the winter of 2017, SILVER SPRAY will be on display in Bermuda during June 2017 for the J-class Regatta. Afterwards, she will go to the Mediterranean for the Summer 2017 charter season.
