Description:

Richard and Christina are the fun-loving captain and chef aboard the 52′ sailing yacht VENTANA, for charter year round in the Virgin Islands.  Speaking well for himself with pep, enthusiasm and a special appreciation for Christina, he said, “I’m going to show you the boat; come on up to the bow.  We have a great foredeck up here with a lot of space.  We’ve got our trampolines if you like to ride and be close to the water.  We’ve got our toys out here for towing behind the dinghy and having fun – lots of paddle boards.  There’s a nice little lounge area up here, a great place to hang out when we’re sailing or at anchor.”

Next stop he showed me the fly bridge, a spacious area under large awning with couch around tables that drop down to become an outdoor bed.  “You’re going to love this cool space,” he said.  ”In this settee here is a drinks cooler, so you don’t have to go down stairs to grab a drink every time.  When you want cocktails, we pull the tables back up.”  Christina added, ‘Here you get the breeze; you also have drop down curtains in case you have a rainy day. The full rain covers are great here, so if it is raining we are 100% protected up here.  Same with down below in the aft cockpit.”

Coming around the stern for a full view of the cockpit, Richard said, pointing to the davits for holding the dinghy, “This is our tender with a nice 40 hp engine for towing people around in the tubes, it’s a good staging toy for water sports and also for taking guests to shore from out at anchor. Here are some large floaties; you can actually support your whole body weight on the big fat noodles versus the little skinny noodles; these are new toys this year.”

Turning toward the dining table in the cockpit, he said, “We have some nice big coolers out here, so we have lots of beers and things chilled down on ice for you. Here is a beautiful table spread by Christina.  She is so creative.  That is one of the things I love about working alongside her.”

Heading inside, Christina showed us the guest cabins, while Richard lifted the James Bond type lifting door to the guest cabin with access from the cockpit.  “This cabin feels like it’s outside,” Christina said.  “It keeps cool from the air conditioning, plus you can hide away whenever you feel like privacy.  All cabins come equipped with ensuite bathrooms.”

Leading me to the other guest cabins located off the main saloon, Richard said, “One of the great features of VENTANA is her five guest cabins, so we can take up to ten guests, a family or a couple of different families, or groups of friends can all vacation together and have their own private cabin with a private bath and shower as well.”  I must admit the sleeping cabins on VENTANA are all attractively appointed with Indian style throw cushions – gorgeous!

Christina said, “We are now walking you into the galley.  This is where I get all my work done.  We have a dining table inside in case it does rain, even though we have the full rain covers; there is enough seating inside around the dining table to seat eight, along with our stools that we use indoors and out.”

She took me down to the rest of the staterooms, all of which have Queen size berths and ensuite bathrooms, three in one pontoon, two in the other. “We call this the pink room, and this one here the boogey room, and there he is, the captain taking a nap!  Surprise!  Waking up, Richard said, “Don’t mind me, guys; this is a great cabin, trust me.”

“We’re going to take you to the last cabin now, equipped with its own ensuite bathroom, and here finally is the crew quarters, which is a bunk bed cabin made up of two twins.  “Some families prefer single beds, and when that’s the case, this is a fun cabin for the kids or two older teenagers not wanting to share a bed, because that’s awkward.”

Winding up the tour, Christina said, “We hope you really enjoyed the tour of VENTANA.  We’re very excited to accommodate guests this winter.  For ten passengers, this yacht will fit you; families, couples; come join us.  We’re super excited to get you guys to come sail with us.”  “Richard added, Yes, we can’t wait.”
