XENIA 74 – XENIA 74 is a massive yacht with wonderful crew of four – Captain Tony Trappe, his wife, Kate Purdy, chef, plus Teri the stewardess and Nick the first mate and dive master.  With 36’ beam, 8 foot draft, the yacht is really 75 feet overall, even though Privilege Yachts, her builder, calls her a 74.  Launched in 2010, she had a major refit in 2015 and is like new.  The present owners own two additional yachts XENIA 50 and XENIA 62, both of which are also Privileges with similar luxuries as XENIA 74, only smaller, but less expensive…..

The owner likes the Privileges for many reasons (they sail great; the deeper the draft, the better they sail), but their varnished wood interiors are another reason.  They give the yacht a warm, classic, nautical feel..  The owner of XENIA 74 is famous for installing gorgeous bathrooms on their yachts.  XENIA 74’s is no different, having gorgeous spa showers with jets and vessel sinks.  The yacht sleeps eight guests in one King master cabin plus three Queen guest cabins, equal, and all have goose down comforters and pillows, high quality linens and towels, cashmere throws.  This is because the yacht has two enormous generators aboard, which can run all night, so Tony can keep the air conditioning on all night, if guests want.  Each guest cabin also has a 27″ LED Apple TV with Satellite TV, and hundreds of movies on the ship’s server.

A watermaker provides lots of hot, fresh water for those spa showers.  After a day of sun and salt, it’s really nice to treat your body to moisture, and the yacht supplies 100% natural, locally made shampoos, lotions and sunscreens (reef friendly.)

You come aboard XENIA 74 and enter the enormous cockpit, which is elegant!  Lovely seafoam throw cushions, beautifully set dining table, four green and white bench settees, offering seating for eight, teak floors, teak dining table.  It’s gorgeous!  It leads into the stunningly appointed main saloon with gracious flower arrangements, candles, bright colors, trays of snacks, candle lanterns, and silver napkin holders.  I love the objects of art!  There are two bars there, one for coffee, the other for drinks.  The yacht treats us to a dedicated sitting room; the galley is not located in the main saloon; it is below to starboard in the pontoon.  It leaves the entire saloon for guests.  Space flows. Salon has a 52″ 3D TV linked to directTV and apple TV server.

The enormous master stateroom has king size bed and bathtub!  Located on two levels, the bedroom is on the same level as the saloon; the bathroom with tub is down a few steps in the port pontoon.  The cabin is enormous and warmed up by lots of varnished teak – gorgeous!

A stainless steel, spiral staircase leads up to the fly bridge from the aft cockpit, where there are two cocktail tables, a Bimini awning for shade at sea, sailing station, offering great views and cocktails, watching the sun set.  Bow trampolines have bolsters for comfort, riding closer to the water, looking out for porpoise.  The crew set up shade there at anchor. Bean bags are tied to the bow for a comfy seat.  The trade winds always blow; it’s fun to look at the colors of the water from the bow. Anegada offers particularly turquoise waters, and it’s a fun sail out there.  “It’s an even better sail back,” Tony said.

The yacht has tons of sports equipment, and Tony encourages lots of snorkeling.  He can answer any question, naming fish, sharing information.  He snorkels with you.  He offers night snorkeling for tarpon and stingray. (Imagine that these creatures are there, while we swim, unawares!)  So it’s good to look.

Tony also offers scuba diving.  Nick is a dive master, but Tony, a certified diver, dives with guests also.  They take four divers at a time, included in the price for certified divers, three dives a week.  One interesting thing they have onboard is a microscope.  I found myself curiously drawn to it.  When asked why they had it aboard, Kate told me, “We found a spec on the deck house…  When we examined it, it turned out to be a baby lobster.  So we got the microscope.”

Rates Availability – XENIA 74 charters for $44,000 to $50,000 weekly all inclusive for two to eight guests (rates slide according to number in party); rates reduce to $39,600 to $45,000 weekly inclusive for summer 2020; $57,500 weeklyfor Christmas; $60,000 weekly for New Years; charters can start on or after December 27th.  Although based in St. Thomas, the crew is happy to do Trellis Bay, Tortola pickups and drop-offs, a stone’s throw to the Beef Island Airport)
