Description:

While being greeted by a welcoming committee of largely Romanian crew aboard this beautiful, 196′ Benetti, we were handed cold towels for our brow and fresh lemonade to drink before chief stewardess Lonela led us into the gracious saloon with silver objects d’art, sea fans and black marble floors…  Three large couches surround a centrally located glass table with standing lamps and spot lighting.  The dining table forward had chargers with three sets of plates and lovely glassware. Lonela said, “We spent November 2018 to May 2019 in the yard; we’ve just completed an enormous refit.”  I noticed the lovely fabrics in the saloon in gray linen.  The colors of the room were soft blue, white and gray.  A 196′ yacht is massive, and ANDREAS L has a 34′ beam.  “The saloon has 4G TV and Kaleidescape movie system,” Lonela said.  “We dine on the upper aft deck, sun deck, or in the formmal dining saloon, if guests want.”

We passed the exquisite guest entrance in black marble and went into the main deck master stateroom.  The cabin has a walk in wardrobe, make up table, and his and her bathrooms, hers with tub.  “We can float candles in the tub,” Lonela said with a smile.

The yacht sleeps twelve guests in six staterooms, including the main deck master King stateroom, the upper, bridge deck VIP queen –  they call it the Sky Cabin –  and four staterooms below, two with Queen beds, two with Twin beds that convert to doubles, one with Pullman.  “All the cabins have day and night time settings,” Lonela said.  We put toys out for children; there’s television in every cabin; each cabin has a stewardess button; phones in every cabin; they rings on our wrist.  We have four different uniforms, night and day attire.”  I noticed the guest bathrooms had black marble and glass showers.  They were sweet smelling.

The upper saloon has all new fabrics and wood floors.  A card table to port and L-shaped lounge to starboard has two arm chairs and surrounds a TV.  Plus there’s a bar.   “We serve pre-dinner cocktails here,” said Lonela.  It opens to the aft deck, where the majority of meals are served al fresco.  Lonela, who has worked on ANDREAS L for three years but who has been in the industry since 2005, including a three and a half year stint aboard the ultra modern, private yacht “A”, said, “We do different parties.  We like interacting with guests.  We can prepare a Venetian mask party or a Greek party.  We entertained Eddie Murphy.  We can do gala anniversary celebrations, or we can celebrate birthdays.  We decorate a beautiful cake with candles and create a special menu.  It’s fun.  We like to have fun.”

I noticed the beautiful hors d’oeurves on the table and the spiral staircase leading up to the sun deck, where was an air conditioned superstructure holding a gym, plus an awning covered deck with long dining table, plus TV lounge.  “We watch football here,” said Lonela.  “We can hire a band to come aboard and play, and the gym offers a beautiful vew.”  All the equipment is new, due to the previous winter’s refit, the large bubbling Jacuzzi; – chairs are actually located inside the pool – the bar next to it – the dumb waitor – the bunny pads forward with two umbrellas…..  It’s lovely.

I’m saving the best for last, since ANDREAS L has a massage room and keeps a permanent masseuse aboard.  “We use all the newest Italian products.”

ANDREAS L has a professional Italian chef aboard for Summer 2020, Alberto Affer, 2-star Michelin rated, and the yacht is based in Amalfi and Sardinia for the summer of 2020.  She charters for EUR 350,000 a week during July and August and EUR 300,000 a week other months.  VAT TAX in Italy ranges from 6% to 21%, depending on ports.  Cruises need to take place beyond 12 nautical miles for the majority of time to qualify for the lower VAT rates.  Cruise from Naples to Sicily, for instance, or Naples to Sardinia qualify for lower VAT rates, whereas cruises beginning and ending in Naples or Sardinia to Sardinia require 21% VAT.
