ELIXIR – Enter the red and black cockpit of the 2008-built, 46’ Leopard catamaran ELIXIR and see how brightly it shines! American captain and first mate Jim and Sherry Shrove purchased ELIXIR in March, 2019 and set to work immediately, getting a lot done. Having run charters on other yachts, they knew what needed to be done to get the yacht ready for charter. Explaining that all the money goes back into the boat, they got new solar batteries, a new watermaker; they serviced the engines and generator; the AC units were checked and serviced; they got new bathroom fixtures, new linens, new LED lights, new guest fans, new reading lights. A new swimming ladder was purchased; an extra step put in. They got a new dinghy ladder, new hatch covers; they got four new bean bag chairs for the bow, new fins and snorkels. “Everything is new!”
“We just got off a ten day charter,” Jim told me in November 2019, changing the subject suddenly. “Let’s discuss how we run the charters.” They select a good wine supply; they love different place settings for the dining room table; they love playing Dominos, they have 300 movies on hard drive; they have BVI wifi – they take children tubing and knee boarding; they have a favorite spot for that at North Sound….. They tube in the Atlantic Ocean! (I gather it’s a rough place for children to get a bouncy ride.) Jim says, “Sherry loves kids; they cling to her; she connects with them; they give children lots of activities to do; We get lots of families.” They love adults too and mentioned something about drinking from the friendship cup, a Scottish tradition….
ELIXIR’s saloon is set up as a sitting room rather than a dining room, a feature I love… Since dining is outside, you can use the saloon as a comfortable place to sit in air conditioning and watch the scenery all around. The three guest staterooms on ELIXIR each have centerline Queen berths; they’re nicely designed; they have windows in the hull, offering views to the out of doors, plus they are air conditioned, so you can sleep in comfort, and they have private bathrooms with stall showers too. How beautifully decorated they are; how pleasing to the eye. Elixir is a comfortable boat.
Based in St.Thomas, guests have a choice of visiting either the Spanish Virgin Islands or the BVIs, depending on what they want to do, and Jim and Sherry are genuine hosts; nothing is too much for them, because love what they do.
