GRACE – Meet captain and first mate/chef Joseph and Britta, who own and operate the brand new, 2020 model, the 52′ Lagoon catamaran, GRACE, in the Virgin Islands. Dressed in gray and blue uniforms, they are Americans in their 40s, thin, young looking, fit. Hailing from Seattle and Florida, they met in St. Croix and operate GRACE with a little dog Zoi aboard. This, their fourth season chartering in the Virgin Islands, they did three years on DIANA ROSE. Joseph worked five years aboard the motor yacht Freedom as a chef, because cooking is his trade, but now he is captain and Britta is the chef, and Britta is the dive instructor and first mate, because the yacht has 12 sets of scuba gear aboard and a compressor, and Britta loves diving. Scuba diving is available for $50 a person per dive, including gear and dive instructor/master. Joseph still does some of the cooking.
A 2020 model, the yacht sleeps six guests in four staterooms; the fourth is a bunk bed cabin. There is a master cabin aft to starboard with centerline Queen bed in blue and white with red, facing windows in the hull, so you can see out. The head is aft. A vanity is amidships. The crew sleeps forward to starboard.
The second guest cabin is accessed from the cockpit. The third stateroom and bunk be cabins are located forward to port. Beautiful cabins, all are similarly finished, and I love the wood paneling in the guest cabins, contrasting with the white liner for a classic, warm look.
The yacht has a wonderful assortment of abstract art.
With lots of AC, the saloon has galley to port, lounge to starboard around a dining table and is modern with music playing, windows all about, and doors to the aft cockpit.
A beautifully set table with sea foam green table napkins and plates gives the yacht a warm feel, and the teak decks speak ‘quality.’ Covered by a hard top for shade at sea, the cockpit has stairs to the fly bridge overhead with couch for six people and a lift aft that raises the dinghy (and divers) “up and down.’
GRACE’s bow has a couch, trampolines and bean bags.
Water Toys – 14’ Highfield tender with 40 hp outboard, waterskiis, snorkel gear, tube, wake board, kayak, floating mats, swimming ladder, two stand up paddleboards, two trawling and casting rods (deep sea), underwater still and video cameras, two sea scooters, and scuba gear with compressor and instructor available for $50/person/dive. Pet dog Zoi can be boarded ashore on request.
Based in St. Thomas, the yacht charters for $22,000 to $25,000 weekly all inclusive for two to six guests (rates slide according to number in party) plus gratuity; except $32,000 weekly for Christmas week and $36,000 weekly for New Year’s week, starting on or after December 27th. The vessel will haul in Grenada during August 2020 and will consider charter in the Grenadines before and after.
