Description:

MARLA – This 164’ Amels motor yacht, MARLA, built in 1999, received a 2017 refit and has amazing pop art.  With cinemas on both the sun and main decks, plus master and twin cabins on the main deck, MARLA is run by a crew who studied service at the Butler’s Institute in London.  The pretty stewardess tells me, “What’s important are the small details – how we serve it – everything must be special.  We use lavender from nature – we build a composition, we put flowers in coconuts; we give finger food toothpicks.” The stewardess herself is a work of art, beautifully coiffed and young and pretty and excited about her job. Captain Manolis and all the crew are young, attractive, handsome; a team for 5 years.  We left the yacht laden with shopping bags of gifts; the crew is lavish with their gifts of hats and all manner of chic shopping bags and packaging.

Rates – MARLA sails from Athens, Greece and charters for EUR 165,000 weekly during May, June, September and October and EUR 200,000 weekly during July and August + 30% APA for food, fuel, bar, and dockage + 12% Greek VAT + Gratuity (5% to 20% of the charter fee is suggested).

The saloon is used for watching TV, whereas most yachts use the sky lounge.  On Marla all the entertainment, lights and curtains in the saloon are on iPad controls, and the room can be darkened for movie watching on command. Main saloons are usually larger than Sky Lounges, so this is a comfortable arrangement. The fabulous saloon has cream colored fabrics on the couches with hints of purple and stone lamps in purple.  The varnished maple paneling has lovely textures and there are succulent plants on the coffee table.  All is indirectly lit, framing wonderful pop art – Mr. Brain, Green Plastic gun – Scarface, Michael Jackson, Marilyn Monroe, and Marilyn Manson; it’s great fun!  The beautiful set dining table forward sports bright pops of color also, and I notice many utensils on each place setting, promising a ten-course meal from the chef.  “We do our best,’ says the beautifully made up stewardess, who showed me around.

Main Deck Master has King bed, oval ports, sitting room in white, pink, and rose, indirectly lit Scarface pop art, all tastefully done.  There’s a full beam bathroom, giving way to dressing from on the far side.

Accommodation Deck – There are two mirror image Queen cabins with tan-colored wool throws, pop art, dressing room, bathroom with tub, and two Twin cabins, each with Pullman, bathroom with shower, no dressing room.

Twin Cabin on Main Deck – Next to the master stateroom on deck is a triple twin cabin with fore and aft plus thwartship single berths, all totally new in 2017.  So the yacht accommodates 12 guests in 6 staterooms, but one of them is a bunk bed cabin.  So there is extra space, even room for a 13th person, in that the bunk bed cabin is a triple, but it should perhaps be written that the yacht is best for ten guests with an option for families and/or supernumeraries.

Upper Saloon and  Bar – The stewardesses serve breakfast up here on the card table aft, located around windows, or on the upper aft deck around a large round table, which was set up with a Mickey Mouse theme for a children’s birthday party when I was aboard.

Sun Deck – gym, cinema, Jacuzzi, lots of expansive deck space; the aft end is protected from the sun under shade; the forward end is exposed to sun over the bunny pads around the Jacuzzi.
A+++!
