Cruise Picture-Perfect Maine

Sylvia and I will be attending the charter yacht show in Newport, Rhode Island next week, where 25 yachts will be on display from June 19-23, 2017.  This show is about sharing with brokers from across the country and world which yachts are available for on–water vacations in New England for summer and fall.

We attend this show to learn about the different amenities each yacht offers (deck layout, interior living spaces, furniture, water toys, and the like,) as well as to meet their captains and chefs, which goes a long way to creating perfect matches for discerning clients.

This year the 198’ Feadship, Blue Moon, built in Holland, is the largest yacht in the show and has fifteen crew and a glass elevator plus indoor/outdoor dining.

The 198′ Feadship Blue Moon is the largest vessel in the Newport Charter Yacht Show presented by Helly Hansen. Crewed by a team of 15 professionals, its amenities include a glass elevator and indoor/outdoor dining.

The smallest yacht is a 53’ Oyster sloop, Contingency, which offers a captain and a chef, as well as a captain-only option, which offers affordable rates, especially if people want to go ashore for dinner, which they usually do in New England, or do their own cooking aboard.

Timeless architecture and picturesque beauty are two of the many things New England offers those who explore its coast by sea, and there are cruising grounds both north and south of Newport in Rhode Island, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Maine and New Hampshire that each has its own unique character and are filled with American history.

Maine, for instance, has iconic lighthouses, perched along sparkling bays, cobblestone streets in downtown Portland, abundant pelagic birds that nest on the thousands of uninhabited and inhabited islands off five long peninsulas, all located in pristine, swimmable, clear water.  Long legged jetties at low tide and seaside towns, many with summer stock theater are home to the state’s lobster fishery.

Many yachts based in Newport move up to the coast of Maine for August.  Arrange a cruise along the coast of Maine this summer.  Download a Maine itinerary here.
