Qualifying for Reduced VAT in the Mediterranean – Summer 2019

When chartering a yacht in the Mediterranean, it’s necessary to pay VAT TAX on top of the charter fees.  In Spain (the Balearic Islands) VAT is 21% of the charter fee; in France it’s 20%; in Italy it’s 22% of the charter fee; in Greece it’s 12%; in Croatia it’s 13%. The upside to paying these high VAT Taxes is you get to start and end your cruise wherever you like.

You can pay less, however, if you spend the majority of your cruise outside 12 nautical miles, following these routes:

ITALY – Pay 6.6% VAT:

  1. Sanremo – Ajaccio – Porto Cervo – Elba Island – Viareggio
  2. Porto Cervo – Ponza – Capri – Naples
  3. Naples – Capri – Eolie Islands – Ustica – Palermo

FRANCE – Pay 10% VAT:

  1. St. Tropez – out of the 12 miles – Antibes – Monaco.
  2. Cannes – St. Florent – Calvi – Porto Cervo

SPAIN – (Balearics) – Pay 10% VAT

  1. Port Vendres – Mallorca – Ibiza – Port Vendres.
  2. Cannes – Menorca – Mallorca – St. Tropez.

CROATIA – Pay 13% VAT

Any Itinerary is fine
